On June 26th:
Roots to Sequoia is a new coalition uniting Americans to protect our shared public lands. We see a growing need to bridge the gap between public land users — from wildlife lovers, hunters, naturalists, Indigenous peoples, climbers, skiers, fishermen, mountain bikers, and many others.
Public land belongs to all of us — but today it faces increasing threats. Our nation’s public lands are not for sale — they belong to the people. Roots to Sequoia unites voices across the spectrum to stop efforts to transfer or sell these lands to private interests, protecting access, habitat, and the legacy we leave for future generations.
Roots to Sequoia exists to be a unifying organization that brings all public land users together with one message:
"Our public lands are not for sale, and we stand to protect wild places — not only for our enjoyment, but for the habitat and all living things that depend on them."
Roots to Sequoia is the central hub where everyone — from outdoor influencers to grassroots conservationists, we can come together with one shared voice.
This movement organizes events both online and offline to make sure elected officials hear our message. Roots to Sequoia provides messaging kits with photos, videos, and written content that can be shared in a single, powerful voice across all platforms.
Joined together, we will stand for the future of America’s public lands.
Every movement has a moment when it begins to take root. This is ours.
The founder had a vision: to unite people from all walks of life in defense of our public lands. A deep stirring began years ago, but like many dreams, it was pushed aside by the demands of everyday life. That changed in 2025, when a renewed push to sell off public lands reignited the call. It was clear — the time to act had come.
The name came instantly. Roots to Sequoia.
“I fell in love with the idea,” said Jonathan. “The sequoia is the largest and strongest tree in North America. Its strength doesn’t come from standing alone — it comes from its roots, which intertwine beneath the surface. To me, that represented community. All of us, connected, forming something strong and enduring.”
Later that same day, Jonathan discovered that John Muir had once invited President Theodore Roosevelt on a backpacking trip into the sequoias. There, in the wild, Roosevelt’s passion for conservation deepened — a moment that helped shape the future of America’s public lands.
“When I learned that, I knew it was meant to be,” Jonathan said. “This wasn’t just a good idea — it was a calling. And I knew I had to give it everything I’ve got.”
Roots to Sequoia is more than a campaign. It’s a movement. A new model — not just for conservation advocacy, but for how we communicate with our elected officials and transcend politics to stand together for something we all love.
And if you feel that same stirring — you’re already part of this story.
Mission
Roots to Sequoia exists to unite all who depend on and love public lands — from hunters and hikers to Indigenous leaders, birdwatchers, climbers, conservationists and much more.
Our mission is to build a powerful coalition that transcends political, cultural, and community divides to defend what belongs to all of us: the wild places that provide habitat, healing, and freedom.
We protect public lands by stopping efforts to transfer or sell them to private interests, by creating clear and unified messaging, and by mobilizing people to take real action — online, in person, and at the legislative level.
Through storytelling, grassroots advocacy, and a shared sense of purpose, we empower individuals and organizations to speak with one voice for access, habitat, and the legacy we leave behind.
We are living in a pivotal moment in history.
And sometimes, when you're deep in it, it's hard to grasp that we’re not just witnessing history — we’re writing it.
Right now, we face a choice that will shape the future of our nation. We can learn to come together and stand united for the things that truly matter — or we can let this moment slip away.
Will you help write history?
Will you leave your mark?
Our first step is to demonstrate the power of unity:
